Grooms get more daring with wedding wear

Most of the time, it’s the bride who’s centre of attention on her wedding day. While most guests will congratulate the groom, and he’ll be in the spotlight when he says his vows and gives his speech, it’s the bride, and her dress, that get most of the attention.

However, things are beginning to change. More and more grooms are now choosing to be a little more daring when it comes to their wedding wear, with bold colours, patterns, and prints all coming into fashion.

As well as making wedding wear more exciting and more individual, this trend is giving grooms the chance to express themselves and wear the outfits they really want on the biggest day of their lives.

Making your outfit work for you

Traditionally, the groom wears a dark black, blue or grey suit with a matching tie and white shirt. Some grooms might opt for a morning suit while others will choose a tuxedo for their big day.

Generally, most grooms dress to closely match their best man and other male members of the bridal party. This can make it difficult for them to really stand out both on the day, and in photos of the event.

Being a little bolder with your outfit choice is a great way to ensure you stand out from the crowd. It can also help you to stamp your personality on proceedings and grab a little of the attention back from your other half.

As @InsideWeddings says, “Tradition is wonderful, but many modern-day grooms are choosing to elevate the typical suit or tuxedo so it actually reflects their style, personality, and even the wedding décor.”

The peacock groom

This desire to share the spotlight, and the longing for a little self-expression, has led more and more men to become peacock grooms. Instead of fading into the background, or playing second fiddle to their beautiful brides, these men like to stand out from the crowd.

Think bold colours, unusual materials like silk, corduroy, and tweed and multiple outfits for different parts of the day. Putting a little extra time and thought into their outfits helps these on-trend grooms to stamp their personality on their big day.

Making your wedding outfit stand out

There are lots of easy and effective ways to make your wedding outfit stand out from the crowd. For a start, choose a suit that’s completely different to those worn by the groomsmen.

While matching suits can look good in photos, you can easily get lost in the crowd. Instead, opt for a suit that reflects your personality. Choose a jacket in your favourite colour or pattern – or forgo a suit altogether and select something that better reflects your style.
